I had a bit of experience during last semester with coding. However, often times I felt lost in the spiral of symbols and numbers. I felt as though my teacher did not really consider laying down a solid foundation with my basic understanding of code. I think without that solid foundation, a lot of things got confusing for me and my code began to get messier.
What classes have you already taken where you were exposed to HTML/CSS/JS?
Last semester's Interaction class was my first experience with coding.
What parts of the class resonated with you?
I think the idea of coding is really interesting. I had never considered how numbers and letters (basically anything that could possibly be related to mathematics or science) could create something intriguing to the viewer.
What parts were most confusing?
Flex boxes were super confusing, also just small details like why text or an asset wont move positions. Additionally, I had a hard time with fonts last semester.
How excited about learning code are you? Are you nervous about learning code? If so, why? What can I do in this class to help reduce this anxiety?
I am excited to get my foundation down so that I can start incorporating more complex things in my website. I am also excited to learn about JS, because I think it is a super cool way to draw in a viewer and make it interactive. I suppose the only thing I am anxious about is getting all of the work done. Last semester, homework and project turn over time was pretty fast... (one week I had two days to make five websites... finalized)
How do you imagine coding fitting in with the rest of your design curriculum and career after college?
To be honest... I am not really sure were graphic design fits into my life after college, but I have found that I actually enjoy coding a lot. Despite all the trouble and my poor skill set, I enjoy it. I find myself kind of getting lost in it. I think it would be super sick to make personal websites for indivduals or business... past that I'm not sure.
What text editor do you prefer to use?
Visual Studio Code.
Have you used GitHub before? Do you know what it is? Describe your understanding of GitHub.
I don't think I have used it before.
Describe the relationship between HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Try using a unique analogy to describe this relationship. Bonus points for creative analogies.
I feel coding elements are like painting. The canvas, everything that the beautiful colors and paint strokes rest upon, is the HTML. It serves at a backbone for code as well as the content within it. CSS, would be the paints as it allows you to personalize the website in multiple ways. This could be, text font, color, background, font size, etc. Much like how color from paints creates the face/look of a painting. Lastly, JavaScript would be the brushes. JS creates an interactive element, depending on what brushes you incorporate into the piece, a multitude of textures can be created. This can draw in the viewer.
Using each HTML heading tag, list your favorite foods ranked by importance (remember, there’s 6 levels of heading tags).
not sure if im doing this right, but my favorite foods are...
Create an unordered list and link to some of your favorite graphic design or development related websites. Include a paragraph on each site describing why it is important to you.
I have purchased many prints from Fisk over the years. I first discovered them because Toro y Moi sells some of his prints on their online store. When I first visited their website, I loved the colors and layout. The margins of the page are much smaller than other websites I frequent. For example, the top navigation area is fairly small, where as the photo content is much larger. I like this because it places emphasis on the content itself. In a way, the layout makes me feel like pages themselves are an empty vessel in order to show off the variety of beautiful work.
My Interaction professor from last semester showed us this website. The floating elements of the webpage was especially unique for me. I have never seen anything like that before. Additionally, the lines that run down the page in an almost organic like way drew me into this page. I feel like the website is just very free and playful. As this was one of the first websites my professor showed us, I had never seen a website like this before, because I am used to mass-marketed/UX/UI web design.
This website… is a dream. Nothing more to say. I love the color combinations, the bright red with the neon pink hues and just a touch of yellow. It is so vibrant. It’s almost like when I look at this page, the colors give my brain a GIANT boost of serotonin. It doesn’t end there though… the website also plays music. Special Offer also works for many of my favorite artists, including Ari Marcopoulos… so maybe I am a bit biased to the design.
Insert an image that brings you joy to the page. Make sure the image includes alt text that describes the image.
Insert a video embed into the page (for example, a YouTube or Vimeo embed tag of a video of your choosing).
Nest the following series of HTML tags inside each other, where each > represents a new level. Make sure to maintain proper indentation.
main > section > div > p > span
the text below is an example of the series above:
hi there!!
My name is Zoey Poole, and I am originally from Atlanta.I am not sure if I did this right. I looked into it and tried to find the correct way of doing everything. My professor last semster did not teach us about indentation, so I am not sure if my way is correct. I've just been organizing my coding this way because it was easier for me to follow with a lot of content within my HTML page.
Create an ordered list of the top 5 countries you’d like to visit. Within each country, create another ordered list of the top cities you’d like to visit in that country. Maintain proper indentation and make sure you nest your ordered lists properly.

Use pre tags to create a simple concrete poetry version of a Haiku or other poem you write. The poem should represent how you feel at this moment. * Hint: pre tags respect whitespace, you can add add lots of spaces and line breaks and they will show up like that when you view the web page.
keep an eye out for the first letter of each line of my poem...
I really want to get better at coding
Now where the hell do I start?
Teacher is trying to give me advice
Even though they know I can't code
Really wishing for a shot right now...
All coding gives me a headache
Can't explain it, those who know... know
Teacher probably wants a shot right now too
I'm just being honest
One day I'll be good at coding
Not today though.

Describe the difference between block, inline-block and inline elements.
An in-line element displays the content in the same line. It follows the width of the content, so it can not be contained by any set width or height. Some examples of inline elements according to Samantha Ming are; “span”, “a” and “img”. Therefore, content will continue to allign next to each other no matter what.
An inline-block element displays the content in a container that is set by height and width values. Therefore, content continues to be aligned side by side until an element can not fit within the set dimensions and goes underneath to begin a new row.
A block takes up the entire width allowed for content before starting a new line underneath.
Add a button to your HTML file and make it do something when clicked using JavaScript.
